I saw him. Standing there in his sequins and leather, hair falling into his dark eyes, looking like some sort of fallen angel who'd lost his way back to heaven. That is, if fallen angels ever dressed in lacy skirts and black corsets, worn under a rhinestone studded coat. I saw him shiver in the wake of a cold autumn breeze, watched him pull a silver flask from his tiny black handbag. Watched him take a deep drink from the flask. Saw his lithe body shudder for a moment. Probably brandy. It'd keep him warm...especially on a night like this. Even though it was only the first week of November, I could already smell the snow about to come in a few weeks. How long had he been standing there? How long had he been standing in the cold? How long had I been standing here at this street corner, covertly watching him from lowered lids, as I tried to pretend as though I was not there. But he caught me looking at him. With a come-hither smile on those shamefully crimson lips, he beckoned to me, a mock parody of the woman he was trying to portray. No. Not trying to portray. He had portrayed a woman, and very well at that. Long slim fingers, visible even from across the street, long legs, and a miniscule waist that Madonna would cry for...how could anyone be so beautiful? His eyes were bordered by thousands of dark lashes that cast half-moon shadows on his pale cheeks and his slightly pointed chin seemed to point toward something rather...fae-ish. As if he was just a Faerie come from another world to partake of this one. Tall, slim, with dark, ebony-colored hair down to his shoulders, it was hard to tell that he was a man, and not a woman. But I knew he was a man. How could he be any other?
And THAT is how my story "The Boy Under the Streetlight" starts, although I suppose it would be more politically correct to call him a "man" instead of a "boy." Meh. :D

[02 Nov 2006|04:58pm] |
I realized that I must economize my time between nanowrimo and guitar playing...
So this is what I'd do *by the way, my word is somewhere aout 6k...I'm about 2 days ahead, which does give me some breathing time, although I want to have it 10k by tomorrow, just to be on the safe side*
Ok.
At night after the time of 9, that's when I'll be devoting all my time to the laptop, probably around 4 hours. But before that time and in daylight, I'll be devoting all my time to the guitar, basically.
I hope this system works. -.-

| Here we go! |

And...the players are off!!!
Whew. It's been two days since Nano has started and I'm proud to say that I'm above the quota: 5501 or something like that. My story is...about obsession and how it can really mess up someone's else. I'm hoping that I'll be able to put some romance into it, but I shall have to see.
I was going through some of Laurell K. Hamilton's stuff and to be honest, I don't know why everyone is just gaga over her. Sure, I like her writing and her ideas, but I compare her writing and mine...and I don't see anything different. Beginning tomorrow, I shall be posting excerpts of the passages I completed that day.

Oh. My. God.
What the hell is WRONG with me?!
...and suddenly I am debating as to whether I should write about a woman and a male escort.

|
| Argh. Blargh. Seriously. |
[31 Oct 2006|10:05am] |
Good Lord.
I must've changed my ideas at least five times in the past two days. First it was the story of the Matchlight Girl. Then it was the story of the homeless guitar bum. Then it was the story of a woman who has to live with this guy just to get the house of her dreams. A multitude more ideas streamed into my brain for the past 48 hours, and I was constantly trying to figure out which would work. All I know is that I really can't go into romance this year. :D Not in a very romance-y mood. However, I am in a snarky mood and HAVE DECIDED to stick with an old project, aptly named Sighs of Asgard, an urban fantasy tale of how the Aesir (Nordic Gods) are surviving in the ultra-modern human world. My main character will be a Valkyrie (I think I'll be going with the name Alida Falken...too clique?) who's been kicked out of Asgard because she was seen by a human in her human form.
Yikes. Only 14 more hours until NaNoWriMo starts.
Am I excited or what?!

| Wow, the memories! |
[28 Oct 2006|10:25am] |
I remember in the mid 90s when there was a certain female musician/singer called Sarah McLachlan who made quite a splash in the musical community. Sweet Surrender, Adia, Angel, and Building a Mystery were probably some of the songs that had more than their fair share on air time and to be honest, it was Sarah M. who made me want to be someone like her, a musician/singer, totally self-sufficient musician who only needed a guitar (or piano...but those are kind of hard to carry around) to tell the world how she felt. Right now, all I do are play at my uni at night, and go occasionally to live bars when they hold their open-mic events. I never play at the open-mics mostly because I think I sound like crap in comparison to the other people playing there. Who knows, though? Maybe, someday, I'll have the nerve to actually put my name on that signup sheet the bars always post by the ancient jukebox in the corner.
Ok, back to NaNoWriMo. It's the 28th here...3/4 more days until the start and I'm totally bugging because I don't have a set plot yet. :D Ah well...I'm sure I'll get there.

| Oh dear. |
[27 Oct 2006|08:39am] |
On second thought.
I don't think I want to do something historical this year. Researching takes up valuable time which could be better spent writing another chapter, so I'll probably just go with either chick lit, a sort of literary fiction, or a contemporary YA novel. I'm hesitant about doing the YA thing because most of the topics have really been "beaten" to death, and I'm not sure if I want to go down that direction.
So...the final decision:
Meh. Either chick lit or some sort of sad romantic literary novel. Although, I'm sort of thinking that the 50k words would probably only constitute about half of the literary novel and about 3/4 of the chick lit paperback (since I've never seen chick lit in hardcover form).
Well.
Now that I'm done commiserating, I think I'm going to go back to my life.
:D Can't WAIT til NaNoWriMo!

ZOMG.
I'm just wondering...since I'm a day before the rest of the world...would that mean Nanowrimo starts on November 2nd for me and then ends on December 1st instead of November 30th? I don't remember clearly how it was the past 2 years, but I "think" that's how things went. Then again, I'm rather notorious for having faulty memory, so who knows, eh?
So! For this year's NaNoWriMo, I've decided to hit the YA genre with a story tentatively titled 'Matchlight Princess." I'm still fleshing out the possible plot as well as the characters involved. It's going to be winter here soon (when is it officially winter? When does Fall officially end?) and I was just thinking that it'd be nice to write something with a "wintery" sort of feel. Do you guys know the tale of the Matchlight Girl? It was written by Hans Christian Anderson and the story is really, terribly sad.
>_< It'll be a sort of a retelling, only the girl doesn't suffer the poor fate she did in the original story by Mr. Andersen. :D I'm actually really looking forward to starting on the NaNoWriMo!

| To write or not to write? Collection of Ideas |
[25 Oct 2006|06:11pm] |
Story Ideas aka getting ready for nanowrimo and actually novel writing!
1. Girl who goes back in time. -What period? Civil War, Revolutionary War
2. Vampires -Current Time?
3. Modern retelling of Chun Hyang (NOT THE RIDICULOUS CLAMP MANGA) or any other Korean folktale -Maybe just plain retelling.
4. Historical fiction -Cowboy Era?
5. Comfort Women aka glory/spirit women -Very sorry to say this to Japanese people (or those who particularly respect the Japanese culture)but man...you guys really fucked over women with the whole concept of "YES! We can boost our troops morale by having them rape the women of the people we have conquered!" *shakes head* I'm qutie disgusted about this and now I'm going to stop talking about it, because I don't want to scare you guys away.
EDIT: Great. This was totally not supposed to turn into an entry about sex and prostitution, but I was going through this site and it stated that the Korean government, upon the entry of American GIs, had this...mandate going around to women in prostitution.
"For example, the Korean government stated that military comfort girls (prostitutes) should be able to serve 29 officers per day if the comfort girl is working at her maximum level. The government even dictated that intercourse should not exceed thirty minutes, otherwise, the prostitute may not be able to serve as many men, and thus be unable to make enough daily profit for the government." - Monitor
Does that freak anyone else out as much as it freaks the hell out of me? I mean...O.o I dunno if guys know this (probably because they're not the ones getting something vaguely resembling a long/blunt baton (wince) shoved up into them) but actually sex kind of hurts. Ok, let me re-phrase that. Sex is great, but after the first time, then it's like "o_O HOLY FUCKING HELL, HURRY AND GET YOUR BUSINESS DONE!" I mean, IT HURTS. Then again, it also depends on the size of the guy and the size of the girl, but damn. 29 times a day. That's more than once every hour. And come on. Back then, a lot of the American GIs weren't exactly your average under-size man. And to add, back then, Korean women were a LOT smaller back then then now. I mean...I can't stand twice in one hour...how the hell could they go through 29 in one day???
Oh and by the way, this is just a little tidbit. It says "Korean" government, but in all actuality, the Koreans were just the puppets and the Japanese military were totally pulling their strings.
Ok...I'm done here.
6. A woman meets a guy on the subway and starts off a chain of events that could lead to her death. -Too cliqued?
7. A woman rescues a guy about to commit suicide. -Eh...then the male guy is just too damn weak.
---YA
1. A girl (fantasy) decides to tag after a questing dragon. Sort of like Don Quixote, minus the windmills.
2. Modern day girl gets stuck in the pre-Civil War days.
3. An author gets stuck in her own book.
4. A woman discovers a guy lying on her doorstep, gravely wounded in strange and odd places. -This does NOT mean that his...thingie was slashed with razors. Gosh!
5. A classic fairytale retelling - Hansel and Gretel - Snow Queen - Jack Frost
6. A tough woman meets a not-so tough guy who teaches her about love and the gentler things of life. - Can anyone else say "Puke?"
7. A woman starts a long-distance relationship with a guy she meets on the Net. As luck would have it, he's an inmate. - Damn...talk about unlucky. Then again, he could be totally innocent.
8. A retelling of a Korean folktale called Shim Chung Juhn. Shim Chung was a daughter to a blind man, and though her piety and the goodness of her heart, she heals her father of his blindness and also gets married to the kingdom's King.
9. A woman finds an amnesiatic (is that even a word?) bum stretched out on her way back.
10. A woman follows a series of positively ancient love letters that lead her to a man she never thought she'd see again.
11. A woman wears an old wedding dress and then gets taken back in time, into the body of a young woman marrying a rich plantation owner who despises her. - This is pre-Civil War.
12. An eccentric lady tells her grand-daughter the love story of her life.
13. Story of a Seoul socialite called "Seoul Child." Pun on "Soul Child"...popular hippy terminology.
14. Retelling of the "Matchlight Girl", only she doesn't die in the end, but gets picked up by a rich guy. Classic rags-to-riches story, but definately with a twist. The rich guy is homosexual and she falls for his bohemian, artist older brother.
15. Story of a piano girl who falls for her cynical piano teacher.
...Does anyone else realize that all my stories are about love? -.-;;
